General questions

1 How do I get involved in Landsharing?

a) You can either post a listing saying that you have land to share or are looking for somewhere to grow. Other users will get in touch with you through the website. It's easy! You can also browse the listings and contact other Landsharers who match your needs. b) Alternatively you can get involved with Landshare Canada as a helper, by offering advice for example, or helping with the digging.

2 How do I see my own listing?

Log in to the site. Now go to My stuff and click on My listings in the menu bar. This shows you what your listing looks like to other people. To see what you look like on the main map you can search for the postal code you entered for your listing. If you are worried that your listing is not showing up on the map then go to My Profile page and check you have ticked the 'I am happy to show my location on the map' box in your contact preferences.

3 My pin does not appear in the right location on the map. Why is this?

The pins use your postal code and the name of the county and or town to find the right location on the maps. But this is not always 100 per cent accurate as a postcode can cover quite a large area. If your location on the map is showing up as wildly different from where you live, or where your land is listed then please contact us at info@landsharecanada.com so we can fix this issue.

4 I have replied to a listing. What happens now?

When you apply to a listing you will get an immediate on-screen message telling you that your response was sent. Your message gets sent to that user and it's just a matter of waiting for them to read it and decide to get in touch. Listings messages appear in My Console in My stuff, so regularly check here to see who has got back to you.

5 What do I do once I have made a 'match'?

The match is confirmed by the land owner. After the land owner and grower(s) have chatted and are happy that they have found the right person, the land owner selects the 'Complete' button on their listing in their Console - this is found in My stuff. If the land owner has more than one plot listed, they'll be prompted to select any other plots they want to keep listed. Once a plot has been matched to a grower, it can be found by clicking on Matched plots in My Console. The successful grower(s) will be notified that they have been matched with a plot of land. Other growers interested in this plot will be notified that the land has now been matched. It's now up to the matched Landsharers to communicate with each other to draw up any agreements or arrange details such as access to the land - look at the Landshare toolkit section of the site for examples of agreements And last but not least, share your experience: once you get started with your landshare, don't forget to let others know how it's going. Use the blogs, forums and Community questions to tell everyone your news.

6 I want to tell others about Landshare Canada and get them involved. What can I send them?

We have lots of downloadable items in our Resource library in the Talking Landshare section, including Landshare leaflets and videos about Landshare Canada. You can download these resources to your computer or you can email someone a link to any of the videos on the Landshare site by choosing the 'Embed' option. This will bring up a box on your screen with some code in it. If you copy and paste this code into your email the receiver can click on a link which will take them directly to the video on the Landshare Canada website.

7 I noticed something inappropriate on the site. What should I do?

Please use the report abuse buttons so that the content can be checked. We will remove the content or posting if it contravenes our terms and conditions of use.

8 I want to stop people from contacting me what can I do?

You can stop receiving messages from all Landshare Canada users via My stuff/My profile/Account details. At the bottom of this page you'll find a paragraph called 'Contact preferences:' And a ticked box beside 'I am happy for other Landshare Canada members to contact me'. If you click on this box to untick it and click on the 'UPDATE' button, you will stop receiving messages from Landshare Canada users.

9 I want to block one person from contacting me on the site, but I do not want to stop everyone contacting me.

If you feel that you are being harassed by a Landshare Canada user then contact us at info@landsharecanada.com and we will work with you to sort out this issue.

10 What does the supporters' statistic on the homepage mean?

This figure represents the number of people who have registered with the Landshare Canada initiative. Not all of these people have posted a listing yet. But more and more of these people are getting involved, as well as new people, daily. Do check the site regularly for new listings near you.

11 Why am I not receiving email notifications of new messages and offers?

You will be notified by email every time you get a new offer or message unless you have ticked not to receive emails from Landshare Canada. Check the settings in your profile to make sure you have ticked to allow emails. Many email clients don't like automated emails, and send them straight to the junk mail folder or delete them completely. To make sure you receive notifications, add info@landsharecanada.com to your address book, and check your junk mail folder.
