Hi! We are Matt & Shaunna, an environmentally conscious couple seeking out an opportunity for serious change in our lives. To put it simply, we would love the chance to ‘own’ our own little slice of land. The past three years we have been building skills more suited to simple, self-sufficient living and also have a great deal of education both within and beyond the mainstream curriculum. During the last year we have been here on the coast attempting to live a more balanced life. We hope to establish a greater independence, in a conscious community, from the current corporate reliance many find themselves born into. After settling in this past year we’ve realized the coast & Gulf Islands are some of the few places we would like to establish a home. Essentially all that is needed is garden space for two, a community welcoming of our two cats and dogs, and potential for a small living space if over time everything goes well. We’re extremely committed to making this change in our lives and are open to almost anything. In order to obtain a small share of land for ourselves, we’d be willing to pay justified portions of rent, and varous ongoing work trades. If you are interested please contact us and we’ll go from there! Thanks for your time. - - - - - - - - - - - - - About Shaunna - - - - - - - - - - - - - Shaunna has done a bit of wwoofing here and there, so she knows gardening and compost basics and has done work on a small cob home in B.C, as well as a larger strawbale home in Alberta. She loves animals of all shapes and sizes, has had experiences with them also while wwoofing and has had many in her life, currently two cats and a dog. Presently she is working on educating herself more on coastal wild edibles & trees, and would love to learn more about caring for a garden. Basically, anything involving sustaining herself through the most natural & nurturing ways for the earth interests her. However, making animal care, green building and permaculture her area of expertise is what interests her most!! Shaunna takes great care of herself by ensuring she eats a healthy vegetarian diet and gets a lot of exercising rowing, sailing and hiking around Salt Spring Island with Matt, and their two dogs Benson & Shyra. As far as hobbies she thoroughly enjoys painting, reading, sailing, cooking and any time spent outdoors.

I grew up in the country in the midst of an Amish community. My parents bought some land from an Amish family that was moving, so we lived with no electricity or plumbing until my father upgraded the house. During my years living in this area I came to appreciate these hard working people and their way of life. I, unfortunately now am a city dweller, but am trying my hardest to get back to the country. Where I live I garden and spend as much time as I can outside. I work outside and a year and 1/2 ago I bought a horse and ride as often as I can. I am good at growing things (so everyone tells me) but I do find immense satisfaction in growing herbs and food and perennials. I have been involved with a CSA farm through the farmers market in my area and I am interested in growing food.

I farm a 320 acre century old farmstead in the wilderness of northern BC, where I sell vegetables and flour at two local Farmers' Markets. I am largely self-sufficient in food: organic vegetables from the acre of market gardens and greenhouse; bread and baked goods from the heirloom grains I grow and mill; milk and cheese from the Jersey cows; eggs from the henhouse; salmon from the river; and occasionally meat from the pigs that till the old pasture or the sheep and cows that keep the farm fertile. I am an experienced baker and miller, and had a popular organic bakery on Vancouver Island before moving north.

Farming and Market Garden partner(s) sought, accomodation available. Kispiox Valley (Hazelton), Northwest BC

Hello there!! I am a single mother of one, my son, Phoenix and I have been living in an apartment for a couple of years. We had 52 pots with as many veggies and herbs as possible growing this past summer, on our front porch, but we would like to be able to grow alot more. We were part of an Organic Community Growing project, called Oliver's Garden Project. Several families in our neighbourhood sold their produce at the Ottawa Street Farmers Market and several other events throughout Hamilton, and the proceeds went to a Childrens Charity. I am looking for a garden space, where I can grow food for myself and my son, as well as be able to give half to Oliver's Garden Project. I don't mind paying a small fee or could volunteer my time to help someone else with their gardens as well. Thought I would get on this early for 2013 Season! Much love!!

Just a small plot of land will do!!

greenshire

Greenshire Eco Farms, established in 2009, is a Permaculture farm. Permaculture goes beyond organic, leaving the land improved from its original state. The farm is located on a busy local and ‘cottage-country’ route in the Kawartha Lakes northeast of Toronto and 30 minutes northwest of Peterborough, between Lindsay and Bobcaygeon. The previous owner lived on the property for 30 years and used no chemicals. Therefore, the land could be certified organic. We have in the ground, in various types of garden beds such as mandala, food forest, and hugelkultur: * 35 fruit trees (5 sweet cherry, 1 sour cherry, 11 apple, 6 pear, 5 peach, 5 nectarine, 2 persimmon) * 66 nut trees (hazelnut, almond, japanese walnut aka heartnut, sweet chestnut, pecan, korean pine nut) * 1500 asparagus crowns * ever-bearing strawberry plants * various seasonal vegetables and garlic Greenshire is a commercial farm and educational centre, open to the public for workshops and agri-entertainment: Permaculture garden tours and natural horsemanship/equine-assisted learning demonstrations and sessions. Greenshire’s horses live in a naturalized boarding environment called a Paddock Paradise – one of only a few in Ontario. Two certified facilitators run workshops and sessions in Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning (FEEL) with our rescue horses, helping our human clients to learn valuable life skills and new ways to be in relationship, while healing the horses, who often have histories of abuse and/or neglect, at the same time.
