I have an education in horticulture, herbalism, and permaculture design and teacher training. I have worked on various organic farms, ran a small organic farming business (csa box program, on farm shop, and secondary markets), designed edible landscapes for homes, and managed a self-sufficient remote farming community on Cortes (to which I now often go back to help out). I volunteer extensively to design and implement edible school gardens and community gardens. I was involved in compiling the current Agriculture Plan in Campbell River, and am looking forward to moving forward with goals set out in the plan. I have taught backyard gardening and small scale agriculture at North Island College, and various related topics with elementary and highschool students. I am currently living in Campbell River and working with North Island College to create the "Lettuce Grow" program, which will provide an educational resource and build community around local agriculture. The mandate of the Lettuce Grow program is to: · Provide opportunities for the community to learn and share about gardening, farming and food · Increase backyard gardening, community gardening and farming in Campbell River and nearby communities · Support healthy eating · Promote local food awareness · Increase interest in local food production and producers · Address the City's priorities as set out in the most recent Sustainable Official Community’s Agriculture Plan Please contact me about anything related to local agriculture, sustainable living, wild harvest, or environmental activism! I would love to hear from you. If you have any ideas or would like to volunteer with any of the above I'm all ears! We are currently seeking instructors for the spring/summer 2013. If you would like to check out some of the workshops and events coming up check out our facebook page at 'Lettuce Grow'. Lettuce grow some community around local agriculture! Cheers!
