Brentwood landshare

I have a fully enclosed back yard in Brentwood which used to be the site of a well-tended organic garden. Years ago when my husband and I were more able-bodied, we spent many happy hours per week on the upkeep of the garden. In recent years, however, there are mobility issues which prohibit a lot of gardening activities, and our family doesn't have the time or the energy to devote to the revival or the upkeep of this project.

There are three 4x12-foot plots (and one 4x16-foot plot which may or may not be workable) for one or two growers to plant for themselves, keeping it organic please, no chemicals.

The recent rains have caused grass and weeds to take over the beds, so there is definitely some work involved to prepare the beds for planting.

There is some compost available from a system built years ago by my husband, and of course, the garden hose is available for use. And there's plenty of parking!

We have lots of birds, too, most years we have some very friendly robins who behave like they're returning home.

I'd like to see one or two growers devote themselves to this space to grow their own vegetables and to make it beautiful again.

We are a small townhouse community in NW Calgary with plenty of garden space to offer our residents. Each year we have extra garden plots available for community use. We would like one organization to be responsible for the extra plots each year. We charge a $10 fee for water use for the season. We would appreciate your offer of produce in exchange - at either no charge or low charge.

backyardrescue

Have old garden space going to waste as I am physically unable to maintain a garden and think it a crying shame that it is not being put to use. Total area is approximately 12 x 20 ft, southeast facing. Needs clearing up, rotor tilling and good for go. Good soil and deep. Don't ask much in return, simply happy to see it being utilized.

Lucky enough to have a small patch of turf in the inner city. Not lucky enough to have the green thumb or the spare time to tend it. I've supported "Pesticide-Free Calgary" and don't use chemicals, but often don't find time to keep weeds in check. Sadly, I'm a poor advertisement for the movement! I buy local produce whenever possible. I also choose organic as often as I can afford. I have 2 enclosed cat runs in my backyard (for 4 cats), so anyone making use of the land will need to be cat-friendly!

Tommy [t-awe-mee] Does well in both sun and partial shade. Pioneer specie grounded with deep tap root. Creates welcoming rhizosphere and works well with others. Enjoys many sun eating hours and is slow to bolt. Attracts pollinators, predators, and is keen to engage :P Hello world! I am very new to the whole gardening business. I'm not sure what colour my thumbs are, but I want to stick them in the soil. I completed a Permaculture Design Course in the spring (with Verge Permaculture)... and What is permaculture? For this context, I will describe it as gardening that regenerates the landscape (rather than degrades the landscape). More thought, less work, tons of play. It is my design methodology. Do you want to grow food in your yard? Do you want to design a great place in your space? AND have tons of fun with it? Let me help you! You help me! Design, grow, learn. Once again I'm new, so you will have to adopt the pace of nature with me... her secret is patience.

earthgrammy

I have always been passionate about the wilderness, exploring, preserving and now sharing with my grandchildren. There is no better way for me to meditate than to be on my knees with my hands in the earth, gardening. As list owner of Freecycle Calgary, I asked our 9400 members to submit any nonprofit organizations that would be of interest to other members for our Links section. Landshare Canada was submitted today. After taking a peek at your site, I immediately added it to the Links section and here I am joining because I feel I would be most comfortable here. I cannot offer Land, alas, but am willing to help any growers with planting or weeding. Thank you.
