About standon
I am a recent graduate of Carleton University, possessing a public policy degree with a focus on sustainability in energy, food, and transportation. Further to this, I have a mechanical engineering background. I have experience working on a variety of organic farms of varying scales. I also have experience in food policy, as a steering committee member of the Calgary Food Policy Council.
I believe urban agriculture is a realizable pathway to sustainability that can function in the current vacuum of political leadership. As such, I have decided to focus on learning and applying urban agriculture to achieve this sustainability, as well as promoting the culture of urban agriculture in the City of Ottawa. I am an avid environmentalist and try to live with a minimal footprint, meaning extremely low energy and water consumption, and almost no waste production.
My goal is to develop a near-perfectly sustainable food system at a backyard scale, relying on nutrients that come from on-site composting, continuously building the quality of the soil without any additional inputs. I would also hope irrigate entirely from rainwater.
